NZTA representatives have said that the funding decision for the SH16-Brighams Creek to Kumeu upgrade will be made in the next 2 months. (ie by start of Nov 2024) Funding had been given in the past, but cost estimates from 2 years ago caused the project to be put on hold as they exceeded the budget at the time.

The present government could complicate issues by removing the cycle ways off the existing plans which would trigger a redrawing of the plans and changes to the land aquisition process. The fastest way forward would be to approve the costs of the existing plans, but we must consider the possibility of political interference as it has happened previously with this section of road.
